I love the fact that futon sofas are multipurpose furniture. However, the DHP twin over futon bunk bed takes this versatility to the next level. And, without taking up any extra floor space!
Not only do you basically get a sofa and 2 beds in basically a 4-foot by 8-foot footprint, you can pay less than $200! This deal comes with a drawback, however. You need to buy the mattresses separately.
While shopping for futon bunk beds, though, I noticed that virtually all of them do not come with mattresses. Although maybe not as convenient as “1-stop shopping”, it does allow us to choose the futon mattresses we want.
My Easy Solution to Get a Futon Bunk Bed with Mattress “Included”
Do your one-stop shopping on Amazon (see my instructions below). Thus, you can get the bunk bed frame with full futon mattress and twin top bunk mattress for about $400 total. Plus, you get free shipping.
For example, you can choose the color you want and the thickness of the cushioning. To make shopping easy, DHP makes a very popular, extra-thick premium full-size futon mattress for only about $120. (Price varies by color.) The bed has a microfiber upholstery (not removable/washable), and you can choose from 6 different colors.
The top bunk holds a twin mattress. Many people choose either a Hybrid Coil Mattress or Memory Foam, both cost under $100 each.
Just click a few buttons to select your mattress type and color, and you’re done!
DHP Black Metal Futon Bunk Bed Review:
The following video demonstrates the functionality of the loft bunk bed as well as its safety features. Plus, the futon sofa feature provides extra seating during the day as well as additional sleeping space at night.
You’ll also notice that this well-designed piece of furniture fits well even in small rooms. The 2 side ladders make it easy to access the top bunk without taking up additional floor space like a stairway or stairs would.
Kids love a bunk bed with a futon on the bottom, and it fits well in a dorm room. However, the higher weight limit (600 lbs for the lower bed) and full-size length (78″) make it usable for adults too. (See the measurement diagram below).

Twin Over Futon Bunk Bed Assembly Instructions:
The trade-off for a cheap futon bunkbed with free shipping is that you need to put it together yourself.
Although time-consuming, the process of how to put together a twin over futon bunk bed is fairly straightforward.
Dorel Home Products provides a complete Instruction Manual and plans which show you how to assemble the frame.
Plus, the futon package includes all of the parts, bolts, hardware and tools needed to set up the bunk bed.
If you need additional assistance, have questions about assembly or need replacement parts, they provide a toll-free phone number. Just call Dorel Home Products at 1-800-267-1739 for customer service.
DHP Bunk Bed Futon Combination VS Other Futon Bunk Beds
By the way, the DHP bunk bed futon combination is virtually the same as the Sanders twin over full futon bunk bed except that it costs about $50 less. Compare both models for yourself. You’ll see that Wayfair even uses the same photos.
The Duro Wesley bunk bed futon combo looks almost identical to the Dorel bunk bed. However, it costs about $100 more. And, as fas as I can see, it only comes in silver and does not include mattresses either.
Walker Edison’s Sunrise Twin/Futon Bunk Bed looks very similar to the Duro Wesley. However, the side ladders are located in the back instead of the front, and it costs over $300.
Amazon also sells another metal-framed bunk bed called the Acme Eclipse Twin XL. The frame length measures 84″ long vs 78″ of the DHP. It costs about $560, including shipping.
Hayneedle sells the Home Source Industries Brielle Twin over Twin Bunkbed for over $500. It does feature upholstered headboards and footboards, but are they worth an extra $300? Plus, you don’t get the futon sofa.
Houzz advertises the South Bank bunk over futon with a vintage-looking metal and distressed wood frame. It definitely delivers more style, but it costs almost $700.
However, if you prefer this vintage look, you can save money on this bunk bed. Just buy it under the brand name Furniture of America (Clapton Black model) for about $350.
IKEA also sells a “loft bed” with a bed on top and a desk underneath. The ladder-stairs come out from the front rather than attached vertically up the side. You get a desk and the upper bunk for about $300, but you don’t get the lower futon couch.
Summary of the DHP Twin-Over-Futon Convertible Couch and Bed:
In short, Dorel Home Products makes a sturdy bunk bed with futon underneath at a bargain price. In other words, it can stand up to daily kids activities while providing a fun place for them to hang out.
Not to mention, this versatile, multi-functional piece of furniture doesn’t take up a lot of space. And the contemporary styling makes it blend in with virtually any kid’s room decor.
